Raw edge applique tips and tricks

--Steam and seam 2 (lite or regular) is the best adhesive.
--Using similar pattern of fabrics in different colors looks cohesive. ( like all dots)
--Always iron interfacing to the back of your main fabric if making a wall hanging.
--Zig zag stitch looks just as good as blanket stitch
--If using a straight stitch you can either be precise and follow close to the edge or be loose and let the needle wander a a bit. This method looks awesome if you do this a couple of times around the shape. Kinda like looks like sketching when done.

Peak hour

Just like with the apha-animals. I broke up an adorable applique pattern and used the pieces I wanted. These are replacing the ones that were in Aidan's room. He is showing more interest in cars so I am running with it.

birdie in a pear tree

This is actually called first day of christmas (partridge in a pear tree) and is to be done in Christmas colors...but I wanted something to hang all year so I switched up the colors and LOVE how it turned out. It is now hanging in my front room.

faux needle turn applique

I learned this method of applique from the Australians who were here for market. I call it the Australia applique but it can also be called the glue method.

--On floriani stitch and wash fusible fiber trace your design.
--Cut out your design from fiber and iron to the back side of chosen fabric
--Cut fabric 1/4 inch out from the fusible fiber edge.
--With a fabric glue pen (sewline) glue a small portion of the edge of the fiber.
--Fold over the fabric, making sure top side of design is smooth
--continue this process all the way round the shape.
--When attaching to panel fabric use invisible thread and a small zig zag stitch on the very edge, catching only a small snippet of applique fabric.

penelope skirt

I saw this skirt (and designer) at Market and loved the pattern. I loved it even more when I found out it took no pattern pieces to make (all straight, simple cuts). This is actually a model for MG, but I so want to wear it now.

I already have one for Aidan's room, but I saw this fabric and had to have another.
